New Delhi: Bayern Munich have agreed a €75million (£65.6m) deal to sign Liverpool forward Luis Diaz, reports The Athletic. He was left out of Liverpool's 4-2 defeat against AC Milan in Hong Kong with manager Arne Slot, confirming his absence was because of transfer speculations.
The forward has been permitted by the Premier League champions to travel and complete his transfer to the German club in the next 24 hours. According to The Athletic, Liverpool rejected an offer of €67.5m earlier in the summer, but the talks resumed to sign the Colombian.
Liverpool have already secured the transfer fee from the sales of Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Nathaniel Phillips and were only prepared to sell Diaz for what they considered to be his full market value.
Diaz has a contract until June 2027 with the reigning Premier League champions, but the forward made it clear that he wants to leave Anfield in this summer's transfer window.
"In Lucho’s situation it was, yeah. There are a lot of rumours around it lately and I cannot go into that. But he is training really well with us and we have decided, for now, not to play him yet," Slot said.
The 28-year-old striker joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022 for £37.5m and made 148 appearances for the Reds, scoring 41 goals and providing 23 assists in all competitions. He netted 13 goals for Liverpool in the Premier League 2024-25 season, playing a crucial role in their title—winning campaign.
The German champions have been looking to sign a forward in this summer transfer window but missed out on several targets with Florian Wirtz moving to Liverpool, while Nico Williams signing a new contract with Athletic Club.
The Premier League champions have already signed Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth around £69million and are interested in signing Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who wants to leave the club. The Arne Slot side is also open to sell Darwin Nunez, while the tragic death of Diogo Jota has further changed their decision-making in the summer transfer window.
