New Delhi: Nottingham Forest have unveiled Ange Postecoglou as their new manager ahead of the club's next Premier League game against Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday, September 13. The Australian coach was signed after the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo.
Postecoglou opened up about his Tottenham Hotspur sacking and said that it wasn't great, and he knew it was coming, so it wasn't a surprise for him. He further added that they won the Europa League and had the parade, so it was a great three days for the club, and he didn’t want to tarnish that.
"What I do know is I had two years where it was very, very challenging but I worked with some fantastic people in the football department … the supporters we put them through some tough times but there isn’t a Spurs supporter that I don’t come across now that doesn’t want to hug me and take me home for dinner, so I must have done something right," he added.
The Australian coach led the Spurs to the European title after 17 years and will get the chance to coach in the Europa League again this season. Forest had qualified for the third-tier Conference League but were promoted due to Crystal Palace failing the ownership rules.
Postecoglou said that he loves winning trophies, and that's what he has done. The Australian manager further added that he's honoured, humbled, but more importantly, determined to put Nottingham Forest in its rightful place.
"I get a sense that the club wants more, and that’s certainly what I want, so I think it’s a really exciting time," the Aussie continued.
Postecoglou also said that he needs to earn the trust and respect of the fans, and they're not going to love him from the first day. The Australian manager will be up against title contenders Arsenal in his first outing as Forest boss.
