New Delhi: Nottingham Forest have officially announced the signing of Douglas Luiz from Juventus on a season-long loan, with a conditional obligation to make the deal permanent in the next summer transfer window.
The Brazilian midfielder joined Serie A side Juventus for £42.35m on a five-year contract from Aston Villa a year ago. He made 204 appearances in all competitions and scored nine goals in the 2023-24 Premier League season for Villa, before moving to Italy.
Forest had been busy in the transfer market after manager Nuno Espirito Santo questioned the club's recruitment strategy last week. The club have signed seven players for £140m this summer as they prepare to play in the Europa League this season.
England Under-21 forward Omari Hutchinson signed from Ipswich Town for a fee of £37.5m, midfielder James McAtee joined from Manchester City for close to £30m deal, and Rennes striker Arnaud Kalimuendo arrived on Monday for an initial fee of £26m, reportedly.
The midfielder arrived in the Premier League with Manchester City in 2017, and spent two seasons on loan with the Spanish club Girona before making a move to Villa. After a brilliant year in 2022/23 for Villa, the midfielder was voted both Supporters' Player of the Season and Player's Player of the Season.
He left Villa Park after five years because of the club's need to meet profit and sustainability rules (PSR), forcing them to sell the key player. Luiz has featured 18 times for Brazil and also won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in August 2021.
After signing the deal, Luiz said that he's happy to join Nottingham Forest and excited to start with the team and give his best this season.
"I am really happy to be here, it’s a big Club and I decided to come here because I can see the ambition the Club has. I am so excited to start with the team and give my best for the shirt and the fans," Luiz said.
