UCL round-up: Bayern thrash Club Brugge, Liverpool end winless run, Chelsea hammer Ajax

UCL 2025-26: Bayern Munich and Chelsea thrashed Club Brugge and Ajax, respectively. Liverpool returned to winning ways by defeating Eintracht Frankfurt. Real Madrid and Sporting CP also registered victories.

New Delhi: Bayern Munich hammered Club Brugge at Allianz Arena, and Real Madrid beat Juventus 1-0 at Santiago Bernabeu. Galatasaray and Athletic Club also emerged victorious against Bodo Glimt and Qarabag FK, respectively, in the Champions League.

After losing four consecutive games in all competitions, Liverpool returned to winning ways, thrashing Frankfurt. Chelsea defeated Ajax at Stamford Bridge, and Tottenham Hotspur played a goalless draw against AS Monaco, while Sporting CP beat Marseille. Matchday 3 of the Champions League 2025/26 season set a new record by becoming the highest-scoring matchweek ever in the competition with 71 goals.

Bayern Munich 4-0 Club Brugge

Bayern Munich's Lennart Karl became the youngest-ever player to score in the Champions League as the Bundesliga champions kept up their perfect winning start to the season. The 17-year-old curled in brilliantly to score the opening goal in the fifth minute before England captain Harry Kane tapped in at the far post in the 14th minute.

Luis Díaz netted the third, and Chelsea loanee Nicolas Jackson ran onto a deflected shot to score the fourth goal as dominant Bayern move into second position in the standings.

Real Madrid 1-0 Juventus

Real Madrid maintained their 100% winning record in the Champions League and kept Italy's Juventus on two points in the points table. McKennie and Gatti tested Madrid's goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois early in the game, and Michele Di Gregorio saved Kylian Mbappé's strike before half-time.

Courtois denied Dušan Vlahović in a one-on-one battle before Bellingham scored on the rebound in the 57th minute when Vinícius Júnior's shot hit the post. Madrid would have netted a second, but Di Gregorio made an exceptional double save to deny Mbappé and Brahim Díaz.

Frankfurt 1-5 Liverpool

The Premier League champions Liverpool ended their four-match losing streak in all competitions as three goals in the first half helped them to register a comfortable win in Frankfurt.

Rasmus Kristensen netted the opening goal of the game in the 26th minute for the hosts, but Hugo Ekitike levelled the score in the 35th minute against his former club. Van Dijk and Konate scored the second and third goals from the corner before half-time.

Florian Wirtz made a brilliant assist to Cody Gakpo, who netted the fourth goal in the 66th minute, and Dominik Szoboszlai scored the fifth goal for Arne Slot's side.

Chelsea 5-1 Ajax

Chelsea registered a brilliant win against Ajax due to their first half that included four goals, a red card for the Dutch club and three converted penalties by both sides.

Kenneth Taylor got the red card in the 17th minute of the game, and Marc Guiu scored the first goal from the resulting free-kick. Moises Caicedo doubled Chelsea's lead in the 27th minute, but Ajax made a comeback in the match as Wout Weghorst scored from the spot.

Enzo Fernández and Estêvão then netted penalties before Tyrique George scored the fifth goal after coming off the bench.
