New Delhi: Argentine star Lionel Messi might have been suspended from Inter Miami's match against Cincinnati but he still made headlines. This time not on the pitch rather at Coldplay's concert as he was spotted alongside his better half Antonela Roccuzzo in his final US show of the Music of the Spheres Word Tour at the Hard Rock Stadium.
As the Coldplay's lead singer Chris Martin welcomed the world cup winner to the concert the crowd started chanting "Messi! Messi! Messi!" turning the vibe of a World Cup final.
Messi was seen smiling in the jumbotron as he waved back acknowledging the loud reception. Martin called him No.1 sportsperson as he said, “Welcome to my beautiful brother! You and your wife are looking so fine. Thanks for coming today to see our band play. The No.1 sportsperson of all time."
The video went viral instantly with fans capturing the football legend smiling and soaking up the admiration. It wasn't his first time at Coldplay's concert as the 38-year-old also attended one of their concerts in May 2023 while in Barcelona.
The timing of the concert worked well for him as he had a weekend off due to one game suspension amidst a breach of an All-Stars MLS match regulations. Messi went to the Coldplay show after attending Inter Miami's goalless draw against Cincinnati from the stands.
Earlier, Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas revealed that Messi was "extremely upset" with the suspension, calling the punishment "draconian". Even Miami's head coach Javier Mascherano also showed his disappointment over the ban despite the club informing MLS officials about Messi dealing with fatigue due to a congested schedule.
Still, the crowd's massive response at the Coldplay concert reminds that the Argentine star's popularity transcends sport. The unforgettable moment at Hard Rock Stadium turned out to be a global celebration of the greatest footballer of his generation.
