Coming on the back of their worst season in the Premier League era, all eyes will be on Manchester United and Ruben Amorim in the 2025-26 campaign, starting on Friday, August 15. Amorim, tasked with reviving United's fortunes after a horror last season, where they finished 15th, will have his task cut out for him in what promises to be a highly unpredictable season. With the top six teams spending a massive amount of money to reinforce their squads, the 2025-26 season is likely to witness a wide open title race.

United themselves have splurged over £200m on three high-profile signings and expect to further strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes on September 1. After witnessing a historic low at the end of the previous campaign, there is a sense of optimism among United fans after their team's good business in the transfer window.

Rooney predicts where United will finish this season

Former United striker and club icon Wayne Rooney recently spoke about United's chances in the upcoming season and urged the Red Devils to sign a midfielder who can control games. Rooney predicted United will finish in the top five - a massive jump of 10 places from last season - and also backed Liverpool to defend their title.

"I think they (United) still need one or two more signings but I can see what Amorim is doing. It's looking better for Man United, and I think they will sneak into the top five. I hope they do and you never know, Rooney told the BBC.

"I still would like to see them sign a solid midfield player who is going to help control games for them, but also build up play. I’d still like one more. I think Bruno, I’d like to see him pushed forward and that allows him to go forward and play forward more," he added.

United are keeping close tabs on Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba, who is perfect for a holding midfielder role, which United badly requires to complement their attack. Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton is also on their radar.

United enjoyed a fruitful pre-season and won the four-team Summer Series title. The 20-time champions face a tough opening test in their Premier League opener against Arsenal on Sunday at Old Trafford. A positive result and performance against their old adversary could set the tone for the English giants for the rest of the season.
