New Delhi: Indian doubles duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have made their comeback to the Top 10 in the BWF men's doubles World rankings released on Tuesday. The Asian Games gold medallist climbed three spots following their China Open run to the semifinals last week.
Satwik-Chirag lost to Malaysian pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik 13-21, 17-21 in the semis. This marked their third semifinal exit on the BWF Tour this season as they reached the last four at the Singapore Open and India Open.
The former World No.1 duo now ranks 10th in the list and would aim to return to reclaim No.1 ranking which they won at the Thailand Open last year.
In women’s doubles, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa made an improvement of two spots to 45 while India’s top pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand retained their position at No.11.
In the men's singles, Lakshya Sen has made two place improvement now at No.17 with 54,442 points just behind China's Zhenxiang Wang who jumped five spots to take No.18 position.
Another Indian star HS Prannoy also climbed two spots as he reached 33 rank with 40,336 points.
In women's singles, 17-year-old Unnati Hooda who defeated the two time Olympic medallist in the pre-quarterfinal last week reached the career best ranking to No. 31. She defeated Sindhu 21-16, 19-21, 21-13 in a nail biting contest to reach quarters where she lost to Japan's Akane Yamaguchi.
Meanwhile, Sindhu retained her spot No. 15 as her run at China Open ended in the round of 16 and continues to be the highest-ranked Indian in the singles ranking. Sindhu lost to the fellow Indian in an international event for the first time in the last seven years. As she showcased glimpses of her old self Sindu will look to build on the same in the second half of the year.
