In August 2025 alone, 74% of study permit applications from India were rejected. This rate is more than double the 32% recorded the previous year. The figure sharply contrasts with the global average rejection rate of 40% and 24% for Chinese applicants. India now has the highest rejection rate among major applicant countries.
The volume of Indian student applications has also dropped drastically. Applications fell from over 20,900 in August 2023 to just 4,500 in the same month this year. This downturn is largely a consequence of Canada's efforts to combat visa fraud and tighten its immigration system.
