Bangladesh lynching: Dhaka cops arrest 4 men for killing Hindu businessman Khokon Das

New Delhi: Three men were arrested on Sunday in connection with the killing of Hindu businessman Khokon Das. The arrests were carried out by Bangladesh’s Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Shariatpur.

According to reports, the arrests followed an overnight crackdown by RAB teams in Kishoreganj. The accused—identified as Sohag, Palash, and Rabbi—were taken into custody around 1 am from the Bajitpur area. The operation was spearheaded by ASP Shahjahan of RAB-14’s CPC-2 unit.

Police said Khokon Das (50) owned a pharmacy and also worked as a bKash mobile agent in Keherbanga Bazaar. On the night of New Year’s Eve, a group of men attacked him while he was returning home. The incident occurred near the Tilai area, close to his residence.

According to the police, the attackers assaulted Khokon with sharp weapons, leaving him with multiple injuries, and later robbed him of the cash he was carrying.

Narrating the incident, Khokon’s father said his son managed to name the accused. He further alleged that the assailants poured petrol on Khokon’s body and face and set him on fire.

Murder draws international concern

Hearing the commotion, local residents rushed to the spot, prompting the attackers to flee. The crowd then took Khokon to a hospital. As his condition worsened, he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The incident has triggered widespread outrage over the recent killings of Hindu community members in Bangladesh. The murder has drawn international concern, with rights groups calling for strict action against the perpetrators.
