New Delhi: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday gave a call to US President Donald Trump, asking the latter to broker a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, praising the way he ended the Israel-Hamas war. Zelensky further added that if a deadly war can be halted in one region, it wouldn't be impossible to stop the war in Russia as well.

The Ukrainian President shared a post on X, saying, “I had a call with US President Donald Trump—a very positive and productive one. I congratulated @POTUS on his success and the Middle East deal he was able to secure, which is an outstanding achievement. If a war can be stopped in one region, then surely other wars can be stopped as well—including the Russian war,” Zelensky also discussed how Russia made several attempts to destroy the energy infrastructure of Ukraine. The Ukraine President also talked to strengthen Ukraine's air defense, as well as concrete agreements that the two sides are working to ensure this.

How the Ukraine-US relations developed

The US President on Thursday declared that Israel and Hamas had signed off on phase one of his Gaza peace plan deal, adding that hostages will return home soon. The ceasefire agreement was seen as a major achievement for the Trump administration, with several world leaders hailing the peace plan.

Relations between the two leaders have improved since February, after the two world leaders held a meeting at the White House. At the meeting, Trump called Zelensky a "nice guy" and extended support for Ukraine, which has been engaged in a crisis with Russia since its full-scale invasion in 2022.
