Indian-origin US citizen Ranjit 'Ricky' Singh Gill is the senior director for South and Central Asia at the NSC and special assistant to Trump. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio gave him the award earlier this week.

While his role in negotiating the ceasefire has not been revealed, the award has shot the 37-year-old lawyer, born to Punjabi Sikh immigrant physicians Jasbir and Param Gill in Lodi, New Jersey, to fame. Also, Gill has worked as the director for Russia and European Energy Security at the NSC during the first term of Donald Trump as US President. At present, he has been entrusted to track India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the rest of South and Central Asia.

The other roles of Gill

Gill is considered to be an expert in international relations and has been a senior advisor in the US State Department's Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations. In 2018, he was one of those who oversaw the relocation of the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, a move that garnered much controversy. He has done his bachelor's from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University and obtained a law degree from the Berkeley's University of California.

He entered public service when he was just 17, as then-California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed him to the state board of education as the only student member. During the second stint of Trump as the US President, Gill visited India this year in August to discuss the long-delayed India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
