New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has once again cleared his stance regarding immigrants in the country by once again attacking Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar. He alleged that she married her brother to enter the US and suggested she should “go back” to Somalia.
Trump commented during an interview with Politico’s Dasha Burns. He was asked about the type of immigrants he wants to enter the US, and that is when the President invoked Omar’s name.
He said, “I want to see people who contribute. I don’t want to see Somalia. I don’t want to see a woman who, you know, marries her brother to get in and then becomes a congressman and does nothing but complain. All she does is complain, complain, complain, and yet her country’s a mess."
Omar is one of the staunchest critics of President Trump, and she came to the US as a child with her family from Somalia in 1995. Trump called the country in East Africa 'one of the worst' nations on this planet and added, "Let her go back, fix up her own country."
Trump had previously targeted Omar and said, “Somalia, where you have a Congressman who goes around telling everybody about our Constitution, yet she supposedly came into our country by marrying her brother. Well, if that’s true, she shouldn’t be a Congressman, and we should throw her the hell out of our country.”
According to reports, Omar went to the US in 1995. She is a naturalised citizen of the country, and she allegedly became a member of the ‘Omar’ family, her non-biological family. She has been accused of marrying her genetic brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, in 2009, and they reportedly got divorced in 2017. Omar has refuted these allegations. Notably, Elon Musk has also targeted her and accused her of "importing" Somalis for voting mileage in Minnesota.
