New Delhi: US President Donald Trump addressed the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday. The US President gave a comprehensive overview of his administration's domestic and foreign policies. In the address, Trump claimed that he ended seven unending wars all alone, without any help from the UN.
"In a period of just seven months, I have ended seven unending wars. They said they were endless. You’re never going to get them solved. Some were going for 31 years, two of them 31, one was 36 years, one was 28 years," Trump said.
Trump also charged India and China with funding Russia's war on Ukraine by purchasing oil from Moscow. Trump urged the NATO countries to cut off Russian energy purchases and join the US in imposing higher tariffs.
"China and India are the primary funders of the ongoing war by continuing to purchase Russian oil, but inexcusably, even NATO countries have not cut off much Russian energy and Russian energy products. They're funding the war against themselves," Trump said.
"If Russia is not ready to make a deal to end the war, then the United States is fully prepared to impose a very strong round of powerful tariffs, which would stop the bloodshed. I believe very quickly. But for those tariffs to be effective, European nations, all of you are gathered here right now, would have to join us in adopting the exact same measures. Europe has to step it up," the US President added.
Trump said that the US has built stronger relations with Israel. He said that the US has moved its embassy to Jerusalem and recognised Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights. "We brokered historic peace deals between Israel and Arab nations, something no one thought possible," Trump said.
"Today, those agreements are expanding, and we are working on new ones. The Abraham Accords have been a huge success, and they show the world that peace is possible when nations put aside hatred and focus on prosperity. We will always stand with Israel," Trump added.
Speaking at the assembly, Trump also said that the US administration under him has effectively controlled Iran, which was fueling terror across the Middle East. He said that we are with the people of Iran, but to the leadership, the message is clear: "The days of supporting terror and threatening your neighbours are over."
"We are dealing with Iran, one of the world’s most dangerous regimes. Fueling terror across the Middle East. In just a short period of time, we have taken bold steps to hold Iran accountable. New sanctions are in place, their oil exports are collapsing, and the world is standing up to their aggression," Trump said.
