New Delhi: Following the US President Donald Trump's softening stance towards the Indian subcontinent, the Indian diplomat KP Fabian asserted that the imposed tariffs did not fetch a favourable outcome for US. The diplomat further added that Trump is slowly realising that the sky-high tariffs that he imposed on India is not bringing any sort of desirable outcome. Especially, the additional 50 per cent of tariffs on the purchase of Russian oil is of no use to the American diplomatic policies.
Trump has earlier claimed the diplomatic ties of India and the US as a "very special relationship". He then highlighted his personal equation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has reciprocated, saying the feeling is mutual.
Following Modi's friendly response to Trump on X, he justified PM's behaviour as a cordial gesture to his US counterpart, but that does not amount to the early end to the tariff war going on between the two nations. He labelled the crisis as Triple T - Trumped-up Trump Tariff. Trumped-up means "without basis,” News agency ANI reported. He then added that Trump had finally realised his mistakes and understood that India would not surrender to his demands.
"What he has to realise is that… India is a civilisational state. India wants to be friends with everyone and wants to do business, but India cannot take dictation," Fabian added.
Last week, the US President, in a gathering at White House, claimed that he and PM Modi would always be friends.
Responding to the friendly gesture, PM Modi wrote on X: “Deeply appreciate and fully reciprocate President Trump's sentiments and positive assessment of our ties. India and the US have a very positive and forward-looking Comprehensive and Global Strategic Partnership.”
Currently, the 50 per cent hike on tariffs had been put on hold, as India has been skeptical as to whether be involved with the US in agriculture and other sectors.
