New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has said that his 28-point peace proposal to end the Russia-Ukraine war, is not a "final offer". He added that he hoped that one way or the other fighting would stop soon. In a direct reply to a reporter's question, whether the peace plan he had forwarded recently was his final offer, the US leader responded with an emphatic "No".

Ukraine plans to propose alternatives

The 28 point peace proposal of Trump, asks Ukraine to cede territory to Russia, cut its army size and also give up on its demand of ever joining the NATO. Reacting to the question, Trump added, "We are trying to get it (war) ended. One way or the other , we have to get it ended."

Reacting to the US proposal, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky has said that he would "propose alternatives" to this peace plan. He further said that his countrymen were at the risk of "either losing their dignity" or "US support." He added that "Ukraine was facing one of the most difficult moments in its history."

Russian President Vladimir Putin meanwhile has said that he was willing to discuss the peace proposal, but only if Ukraine was also ready to accept it. He said that if Kyiv refused to cooperate, his country would continue with the offensive in Ukraine.

The Russia-Ukraine war started in February 2022.

Earlier on Friday, Trump was quoted by the Associated Press as saying that November 27 - when the United States celebrates Thanksgiving - was an "appropriate time" to set for Zelensky to agree a deal, but he indicated it could be flexible.

Talking to reporters Trump said, "He'll have to like it, and if he doesn't like it, then you know, they should just keep fighting."

The US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump special envoy Steve Witkoff will reach Geneva on Sunday to discuss the peace proposal. European officials are also expected to reach Switzerland.
