US Ukraine Peace Plan Faces European and Ukrainian Backlash

| Updated on: Nov 24, 2025 | 08:03 AM

Top officials from the United States, Europe, and Ukraine have convened in Geneva to address Washingtons contentious draft plan aimed at ending the Ukraine war. The U.S. proposal, presented to President Zelensky with a looming deadline, mandates Ukraine cede territory, reduce its military strength, and abandon its aspirations for NATO membership. These terms have been widely interpreted by many Ukrainians and frontline soldiers as amounting to near capitulation after years of conflict.

The proposal has ignited significant diplomatic friction. European leaders, notably France, Germany, Britain, the European Union, and Italy, are meeting to formulate a parallel European draft, expressing concern over their lack of consultation on the original U.S. plan. Ukraines delegation, led by Andre Yermak, warns the plan could compromise the nations dignity, freedom, and its alliance with Washington.

Meanwhile, Russia has deemed the draft a valid basis for negotiations, despite potential objections to demands for Russian pullbacks and the allocation of frozen assets. Former U.S. President Donald Trump has also weighed in, accusing Ukrainian leadership of ingratitude for American support, further complicating the diplomatic landscape.
