All eyes on Telangana CM Revanth Reddy as Jubilee win boosts talk of Congress think tank role

New Delhi: Despite an aggressive campaign in Bihar, the Congress managed to secure only six seats. Yet the party leadership in Delhi is drawing comfort from the Jubilee Hills by-poll win, where the Congress candidate overcame both incumbency and sympathy factors, a result seen as a major endorsement of Revanth Reddy’s leadership. At a time when the high command is worried about the BJP’s growing influence in Telangana and Karnataka, senior leaders believe Revanth’s role will be central to strengthening the party in the South. Fresh stock-taking in Delhi Within the party, another round of internal review is underway. The high command is said to have acknowledged the damage caused by relying on inexperienced hands for crucial decisions in Bihar — from candidate selection to alliance management. Concerns have also been raised about some leaders’ weak connect with grassroots workers, delays in accessing the Chief Minister, and poor media coordination. This has reinforced the...

‘I have no family’: Rohini Acharya after quitting politics, accuses RJD leaders of forcing breakup

New Delhi: Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, intensified the family and party crisis on Saturday, saying, “I have no family”, a day after announcing her decision to leave politics and “disown” her family. She said that senior RJD leaders Sanjay Yadav, a Rajya Sabha MP close to Tejashwi Yadav and one Rameez had forced her to cut ties. Speaking to reporters at Patna airport, Rohini made the stark remark amid the RJD’s steep fall to just 25 seats in the Bihar Assembly elections. A doctor by training, she accused Sanjay Yadav, Rameez and Tejashwi Yadav of forcing her out, claiming she has been “expelled” from the family and that anyone who questions them faces abuse and even threats of being hit with slippers. Inner-circle tensions Her statements point to escalating internal tensions following the coalition’s heavy defeat. Rohini alleged that strategist Sanjay Yadav, whom she sarcastically referred to as 'Chanakya; ' remains insulated from...

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a massive gathering of Bihar-origin residents in Surat on Saturday. He said that “there is no need to teach politics to Biharis” as he applauded the community’s role in the NDA’s decisive victory in the Bihar Assembly elections. He said the talent and resilience of people from the state were visible across India and had significantly shaped the election verdict. Bihar pride highlighted The PM told the crowd that after such a historic mandate, a visit to Surat would have been “incomplete” without meeting the city’s Bihari workforce and their families. Describing this outreach as a responsibility, he said, “It is their right,” acknowledging the unwavering support Biharis have given him over the years. He reflected on his time as Gujarat Chief Minister, saying his approach was always guided by one principle: “For India’s development, Gujarat must progress.” He asserted that the BJP’s ideology of “nation...

Why RJD topped the vote share but BJP–Nitish won big: Bihar results explained

New Delhi: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), which headed the Mahagathbandhan alongside the Congress, delivered a weak performance in the Bihar Assembly elections, winning only 25 of the 143 seats it contested under the alliance’s seat-sharing formula. However, the party found a small consolation in its overall vote share. Despite the poor seat tally, the RJD emerged as the single party with the highest vote share in this election, according to results declared on Friday, November 14. Vote share shifts The party secured 23 per cent of all votes cast, a marginal dip from its 23.11 per cent share in the previous assembly polls. In 2020, the RJD had fielded 144 candidates. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also improved its vote share, rising to 20.07 per cent from 19.46 per cent in the last election, even though it contested fewer seats—101 this time, compared to 110 previously—show Election Commission of India (ECI) figures. Vote share reflects the proportion of total votes a party...

New image of Red Fort suicide bomber Umar Mohammad surfaces, revealing him in doctor’s attire

New Delhi: A new CCTV image of Umar Mohammad, the suicide attacker behind the Red Fort car bomb, has emerged, showing him dressed in a doctor’s uniform just hours before he carried out the blast. The footage, captured in Haryana’s Faridabad, places him in the same city where police recently busted a white-collar Jaish-e-Mohammed module. In the clip, he is seen holding two mobile phones. Mohammad, a Pulwama-born doctor from the 1989 batch, worked at Al-Falah Medical College, which is now under investigation as several of its doctors face terror charges. He drove the white Hyundai i20 that exploded near a traffic signal in Old Delhi, with his identity later confirmed through DNA testing. CCTV trail mapped Investigators have pieced together his movements on November 10, tracking him across nearly 50 CCTV locations in Delhi. They found that he bought the i20 on October 29, had it checked for emissions the same day and kept it parked for 12 days. Police believe Mohammad panicked after...
