Only NDA can ensure Kerala’s security, says Amit Shah; attacks LDF and UDF over ‘vote bank politics’

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday launched a sharp political attack on Kerala’s ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF), accusing both alliances of failing to safeguard the state from extremist organisations due to what he termed “vote bank politics”. Shah said only the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) could guarantee a secure and developed Kerala. Addressing a conclave organised by Kerala Kaumudi, the home minister said that while Kerala’s law and order situation may look stable on the surface, multiple underlying threats were quietly taking shape and could pose serious risks in the future. ‘LDF, UDF cannot protect Kerala’ Shah directly questioned the ability of the LDF and UDF to deal with radical outfits, naming the Popular Front of India (PFI) and Jamaat-e-Islami. “Can the LDF or the UDF keep Kerala safe from the PFI and Jamaat-e-Islami? Never, because they see them as vote banks. Only the NDA can keep...

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump on Sunday delivered a stark warning to Cuba, urging the Caribbean nation to negotiate with Washington before it is “too late” and asserting that Havana has long depended on Venezuelan support that will now end. I strongly suggest they make a deal, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.” Trump argued that Cuba had historically survived on Venezuelan resources, writing: “Cuba lived, for many years, on large amounts of OIL and MONEY from Venezuela.” The president also repeated unverified claims about Cuba’s involvement in recent violence, asserting: “Most of those Cubans are DEAD from last weeks USA attack, and Venezuela doesn’t need protection anymore from the thugs and extortionists who held them hostage for so many years.” Trump framed the shift in regional dynamics as part of a broader change in US policy in...

Trump declares emergency to shield Venezuelan oil revenue held in US accounts

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump on Saturday signed an executive order declaring a national emergency aimed at protecting Venezuelan oil revenues held in US Treasury-linked accounts from any form of legal seizure or judicial action, the White House said. The measure is intended to ensure that the funds remain under US control and are used to advance Washington’s foreign policy objectives toward Venezuela. Blocking legal seizures According to a White House fact sheet, the order blocks any “attachment, judgment, decree, lien, execution, garnishment, or other judicial process” against foreign government deposit funds. This protection specifically covers revenues generated from Venezuelan crude oil and related diluent sales that are currently held in US accounts. The administration said the step was necessary to prevent legal claims by courts or creditors that could undermine US efforts to influence political and economic stability in Venezuela. “President Trump is preventing...
