Kerala: Police arrest navy sailor over sexual assault of minor girl

Fort Cochin : In a shocking case of sexual assault, the Kochi Harbour police arrested a 28-year-old sailor attached to the Indian Navy base in Kochi on charges of sexually assaulting a minor girl. The accused has been identified as Amit, a native of Kalanaur in Rohtak, Haryana. The arrest was made following a complaint lodged by a 15-year-old girl, a native of Rajasthan and the daughter of a CISF officer in Kochi. According to police sources, the accused allegedly lured the victim, a Rajasthani native and the daughter of a CISF officer in Kochi, to his residence in Mundamveli, where the sexual assault took place. “The accused is based at Kochi naval base. As crowds swell to dangerously high levels, central forces to arrive at Sabarimala

Sabarimala: The pilgrim rush at the Lord Ayyappa Temple in Sabarimala has crossed dangerous levels, Travancore Devaswom Board president K Jayakumar said on Tuesday. Many devotees were reportedly breaking queues and rushing towards the sanctum for darshan, he said while addressing the media. “Such a massive crowd should never have been allowed to build up. The situation will become unmanageable unless 80–90 devotees climb the 18 steps every minute. Central forces are expected to arrive today, and coordination with them will begin immediately,” he added. There are also reports that several devotees returned without getting darshan, leaving only after performing the ghee offering at Pampa. Fish bone found in liver removed through surgery at Kochi hospital

Kochi: In a major accomplishment, doctors at Rajagiri Hospital, a private hospital in Kochi discovered a fish bone lodged in the liver of a 36-year-old college lecturer from Perumbavoor who was being treated for symptoms of a persistent cough and fever. The foreign object was found during a scan conducted to determine the cause of the man 's severe, two-week-long fever. The patient initially consulted Dr. Salini Baby John in the General Medicine department, assuming the illness was a common fever. Recognizing that the fever had continued for two weeks without a specific cause, Dr. Salini advised a PET scan. 96 percent of enumeration forms already distributed as part of SIR in Kerala, says SEC

Thiruvananthapuram: The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Kerala, revealed that, owing to the dedicated and committed efforts of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) across the State, over 96% of the Enumeration Forms have already been distributed as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls. "To further ensure smooth and timely completion of the remaining stages, District Administrations have taken comprehensive measures to facilitate the BLOs in collecting the filled forms. These include setting up special camps, extending local logistical support, and establishing centres equipped with technical and infrastructure facilities to assist BLOs in the digitization of forms in a time-bound manner", SEC said in a press statement. Kerala approaches SC seeking to defer SIR till December local body polls

New Delhi: Raising administrative liabilities and tremendous work pressure, the Kerala government has moved the Supreme Court seeking to defer the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls ordered by the Election Commission of India,. The LDF government has argued that the exercise will adversely affect the administration during the run-up to the December local body elections. In its plea, Kerala has urged the court to postpone the SIR at least until after the Local Self-Government Institutions polls. The State says the manner in which the revision is being undertaken is incompatible with the current election schedule. Kerala has 1,200 local bodies and 23,612 wards, with polls mandated to be completed before December 21, 2025. The State Election Commission has scheduled polling for December 9 and 11, with counting on December 13. The entire election process is expected to conclude by December 18. Illegal organ donation case: Kochi native involved in trafficking Indians to Iran arrested by NIA

Ernakulam: In a major development in the illegal organ donation case, the National Investigation Agency has arrested the key accused in a case involving the trafficking of people to Iran. The accused is Ernakulam native Madhu Jayakumar. He is currently being interrogated at the NIA office in Kochi. According to NIA sources, the probe team nabbed him when he returned from Iran on November 8 and produced him before the court in Kochi on November 12. The court has remanded Madhu to NIA custody till November 19. The human trafficking incident came to light on May 18, 2024, when officials of the Bureau of Immigration at Kochi airport intercepted a youth on suspicion. Sabarimala gold theft: Scientific test to be conducted on Nov 17 , chief priest to seek divine permission

Sabarimala: Ahead of the 41-day pilgrimage season, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Crime Branch will conduct scientific tests at the Sabarimala temple on November 17 as part of its investigation into the missing gold case. The move comes after the Kerala High court intervened in the matter and directed the probe team to question the Devaswom officials. The court also directed the probe team to conduct a scientific assessment of the artefacts and the gold and copper platings and hence to assess the amount of gold material that had gone missing. On Thursday, the Kerala High Court granted permission for the tests, which involve collecting samples from the gold-plated panels of the Dwarapalaka idols and the door frames of the sanctum sanctorum.
