New Delhi: India's infrastructure and real estate market have seen a boom in recent years. However, it remains immensely challenging to rent a property in Bengaluru.
Sahil Khan, currently a resident of Bengaluru’s Koramangala, posted on X about his ordeal with shocking rent rates in the city. He took to social media and shared that he was told the monthly rate of a 3BHK property in Cooke Town is Rs 1 lakh, that too excluding maintenance.
Khan posted on November 18 the troubles he has faced while trying to find a rented home in Bengaluru that would not burn a hole in his pocket. But it has proved to be a mammoth task as the real estate prices are soaring through the roof in the city.
He wrote in the post, “Landlords are asking for 1L rent in Cooke Town for a 3bhk. Have people lost their minds?" Khan has told Hindustan Times that he is planning to get married and wants to move to a new house by January 2026. He works as a product designer at a startup and pays a monthly rent of Rs 50,000 for a 2BHK flat in Koramangala.
Brokers have shown him apartments in Cooke Town with rents ranging between Rs 75,000 and Rs 80,000. He was informed of a place with a monthly rent of Rs 65,000, which was located near a railway track. He told HT, "There are a lot of IT people (in Bengaluru). So there is money. They (landlords) want some of that (money)." He found a home with a monthly rent of Rs 1 lakh, but it was a semi-furnished flat in a not a large apartment complex, and it excluded maintenance charges.
Khan also refuted suspicions of religious bias and said on X, “People have made this as well about religion. People have truly lost their minds." The revelation about rent stunned social media users, and it brought forth the exorbitant rents in Bengaluru.
