New Delhi: In a respite for Delhiites, the national capital’s Air Quality Index (AQI) level slightly improved on Sunday morning. While the AQI was 269 this morning at 7 am, the same was 305 at 4 pm last evening. As per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the AQI also shifted from the ‘Very Poor’ to ‘Poor’ category.
However, despite the improvement, areas like ITO were still covered under dense smog. Areas like Shadipur (335), Jahangirpuri (324(, Nehru Nagar (319) and RK Puram (307) were still recorded under the ‘Very Poor’ category. In comparison, Mandir Marg recorded 158, placing it in the ‘Moderate’ category.
Among the areas placed under poor category are Sirifort (293), Bawana (295), Vivek Vihar (289), Rohini (291), Burari Crossing (283), DTU (285), Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range (282), Mundka (283), Chandni Chowk (281), Dwarka Sector 8 (281), Wazirpur (281), Patparganj (280), Anand Vihar (281), Sonia Vihar (277), Narela (276), Ashok Vihar (275), ITO (269), JLN Stadium (269), Punjabi Bagh (265), Pusa (263), and SRRI Mathura Road (262), ANI reported.
Talking about the pollution, the Delhi Government said that it is monitoring the situation closely and taking relevant steps to control the pollution in the national capital. “This campaign of Delhi for pollution control is continuing with full determination,” Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta wrote on X recently.
"Delhi's environment has become utterly polluted, and this has increasingly been seen over the last six to seven years. People may measure it in AQI or any other form, but I consider it murder. Doctors have said that those living in Delhi in such an environment will see their life expectancy reduced. It is as simple as slowly poisoning somebody to death, and we are all responsible for this crime", Congress leader Sandip Dikshit said while speaking to ANI on Saturday.
