‘It will give us hope...’: Kiran Bedi urges PM Modi’s intervention as Delhi pollution worsens

New Delhi: Former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Kiran Bedi has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging his intervention to control the air pollution in Delhi. The AQI level in Delhi and adjoining areas has consistently shifted from ‘Severe’ to ‘Very Poor’ category over the last few days.

In her message, the former senior Delhi Police officer has also urged the Prime Minister to speak about the issue on his monthly Mann ki Baat programme this Sunday. The Prime Minister speaks on various issues during his programme every month.

Referring to his Zoom session with officials, during her time as Puducherry as Lieutenant Governor, Bedi said, “Sir, please forgive me for pleading again. But I have seen your very effective Zoom sessions during my time in Puducherry. How did you get everybody to deliver and perform time-bound in several national challenges? How everyone was inspired to meet the deadlines and the goals," a part of Bedi's tweet read.

Urging her to hold a virtual meeting with the Delhi chief minister and other officials, she added, “It will give us hope because we will know it’s under your oversight. People can heave a sense of relief”. She added, “Delhi was waiting for a ‘double engine’ in this respect too, to undo the damage done last 10 years.”

Delhi’s AQI continues to remain ‘very poor’

Meanwhile, Delhi’s overall air quality remained in “very poor” with an AQI reading of 332 in the morning. It was marginally lower than Friday’s AQI, which stood at 369, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed.

As per CPCB, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered “good”, 51-100 “satisfactory”, 101-200 “moderate”, 201-300 “poor”, 301-400 “very poor”, and 401-500 “severe”. The national capital also recorded a minimum temperature of 10.4 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
