New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a Mercedes car struck three people in Delhi's Vasant Kunj area early on Sunday, killing a 23-year-old man. Two others, who were seriously injured in the incident, have been hospitalised. The police have taken the accused driver into custody and initiated a probe in the incident. The accident took place in near the Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj.
As per reports, at around 2:33 am, the Vasant Kunj North police station received a PCR call about the road accident. After receiving the information, police immediately reached the spot, where they found a Mercedes G63 lying after the accident. Three employees of a restaurant within Ambience Mall were also found injured. They were soon shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared one of them dead. The deceased as been identified as 23-year-old Rohit, a resident of Chamoli in Uttarakhand.
The accused Mercedes driver has been identified as 29-year-old Shivam, a resident of Karol Bagh. Police have taken him into custody. Shivam's wife and elder brother were also in the car at the time of the incident. According to preliminary investigations, the vehicle lost balance and struck a pole where all three people were standing. The accused was reportedly returning home after attending a wedding.
The Mercedes car is said to belong to Shivam's friend Abhishek. During its probe, the police examined CCTV footage from the scene to determine the exact cause of the accident. The injured and the deceased man's family have been inconsolable since the incident. The Police have also seized the accused's Mercedes car, which is registered in Himachal Pradesh.
