Delhi plans to improve DTC's public image; drivers, conductors to get behaviour, morality classes

The main objective behind this initiative of the government is to improve the operation of DTC buses with special focus on making drivers and conductors aware of road safety. By changing the ethical values and behaviour of bus drivers and improving safe driving techniques, the aim is to ensure a great experience of safe travel in buses for the bus passengers.

New Delhi: Daily commuters of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses may soon see a good change in the behavior, language and morality of the bus drivers and conductors. To improve DTC's public image, Delhi’s Transport Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh has directed DTC to start a new initiative.

Singh has said that soon Delhi Transport Department will give special training to all DTC bus drivers and conductors to improve their behaviour towards passengers and make them morally responsible and aware. All drivers and conductors will be directed to improve customer service and stick to safe driving techniques.

Singh said that departmental action will be taken against DTC drivers for not stopping the bus properly at the bus stop, speeding, rash driving, not driving buses in their lane, driving the bus with the doors open, jumping red light and zebra crossing. He added that passengers can register a complaint by calling the helpline number of the Transport Department and share the bus number.

He further said that regular counselling will also be done along with complete monitoring of both the work and behaviour of all bus drivers and conductors with the help of high-tech CCTV cameras installed in DTC buses. In this awareness campaign, along with verbal test, practical training will also be given, so that it can be ensured that bus drivers and conductors can fully understand safe driving techniques along with efficient behavior.

The minister said that by training DTC bus drivers and conductors, they will behave respectfully with the passengers. Many passengers travelling in buses have complained to Delhi Transport Department about the behaviour of bus drivers and said that people keep waiting for DTC buses at the bus stop but they do not stop the buses. Many times, the drivers talk on the phone and drive the bus ahead with the bus doors still open.
