Delhi: Yamuna to get clean, potable water to reach household; 19 projects worth Rs 1,816 cr launched

The Delhi government said that the 19 projects include upgrading of eight sewage treatment plants (STPs), three drinking water projects, and eight new sewer lines and house sewer connection schemes.

New Delhi: Various development projects are being launched in Delhi as part of the Seva Pakhwada initiative launched by the Delhi government. On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the Keshavpur Sewage Treatment Plant and inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 19 major projects worth approximately Rs 1,816 crore (approximately $1.816 billion). According to the Delhi government, these projects aim to provide better water supply to Delhi and make the Yamuna clean and pure.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood, along with several Delhi government ministers, MLAs, and officials were present on the occasion. With the formation of the BJP government in Delhi, with the support of the central government, efforts have intensified to realize the dream of clean drinking water, a modern sewerage network, and a pollution-free Yamuna in Delhi.

According to the Delhi government, these 19 projects include the upgrading of 8 sewage treatment plants (STPs), 3 drinking water projects, and 8 new sewer lines and house sewer connection schemes.

Sewage Projects (Total cost Rs 1,416.49 crore)

  • Keshopur Phase II and III: Capacity will be increased from 40 MGD to 60 MGD. Total cost Rs 504 crore
  • Kondli Phase IV: Cost Rs 288 crore
  • Rohini: Capacity will be increased from 15 MGD to 25 MGD at a cost of Rs 147 crore
  • Coronation Dumpers (Phase I to III): Total cost over Rs 230 crore
  • Narela and Yamuna Vihar: Approximately Rs 183 crore will be spent to increase capacity and improve sanitation at both locations
  • Najafgarh: The old STP will be modernized. Cost Rs 63 crore

The Delhi government claims that these projects will increase Delhi's sewage treatment capacity by 40 MGD.

Drinking Water Projects (Total cost Rs 99.1 crore)

  • Modern underground reservoirs and pumping stations will be built in Palla, Dassarpur, and Bijwasan.
  • It is claimed that these projects will provide clean drinking water to thousands of Delhi households and alleviate water pressure problems.

New Sewer Lines, House Connections (Total cost Rs 301.10 crore)

New sewer lines and house-to-house connections will be laid in Karawal Nagar, Siraspur, Tajpur Khurd, Yamuna Vihar, Ranaula, Gokulpur, Vikaspuri, and Kamruddin Nagar.

Most of these works will be carried out under the Central Government's AMRUT 2.0 scheme. According to the Delhi government, a total of Rs 1816.69 crore will be spent on all these projects.
