Gurugram: After heavy rains caused damage and waterlogging in the city earlier this month, officials are pushing hard to improve the roads in Gurugram. Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said they aim to fill all potholes by the end of September and finish repairing and strengthening all roads by the end of October, according to an official.
Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar, who gave an update on the road work during a video meeting led by Chief Minister Nayab Saini, confirmed the October deadline for repairs. CM Saini instructed officials to make sure that no carelessness happens during road building and repairs. He said all departments must complete their work on time so that people get better roads to use. He stressed that any road damaged by the rains should be fixed quickly as a top priority, the official said.
The Deputy Commissioner explained that there is a plan to repair 29 roads totaling 23 kilometers under the Public Works Department (PWD B&R). The estimated cost is Rs 17 crore. After tenders are invited, work should start within three weeks. In Sector-37, managed by HSVP, repair work on 46 roads covering 5.25 kilometers has already started and is expected to finish by October. Similarly, in the Pataudi area, an estimate of Rs 9 crore is ready for fixing 72 roads, which cover 13 kilometers, the official added.
The Deputy Commissioner also said that the Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board looks after 110 roads. Of these, 2 roads in the Budhera area were damaged in the monsoon and will be repaired soon. In the HSIDC’s Udyog Vihar area, repair work on 4 out of 6 roads is done. In Manesar, 6 places need fixing; work on 5 sites has been given out, while the last one is still waiting for tenders, the official said.
Municipal Commissioner Dahiya mentioned that the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has found 110 kilometers of roads that need repairs. The estimated cost for this is about Rs 60 crore, the official said. Manesar Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha and other concerned departments also joined the meeting.
