Noida: A 23-year-old hairdresser, who also delivered groceries, was arrested in Greater Noida on Thursday for allegedly coercing a woman into stripping by keeping her son at knifepoint, recording obscene images and videos, and later blackmailing her with the material.
According to The Times of India, the incident took place in July at the woman’s apartment, where the accused, identified as Gaurav, regularly delivered milk and other household supplies. The woman alleged that he harassed her for over two months with the recordings before she finally sought police help on September 2.
She approached the emergency helpline after he uploaded some of the material online and sent it to her husband, who lives in Ahmedabad.
As per the TOI report, investigators said Gaurav had gone to the woman’s flat on July 10, claiming he wanted to speak to her. Once inside, he allegedly pulled out a knife and held it to the neck of her sleeping son. The woman told police he threatened to kill the boy if she resisted, forcing her to undress while he filmed and photographed the act.
She stated that he also threatened to harm her daughter, leaving her with no option but to comply. In the weeks that followed, Gaurav allegedly blackmailed her repeatedly, making uninvited visits to her flat and warning her not to contact the authorities. On one occasion, he is said to have scaled the balcony of her fourth-floor residence at night to intimidate her.
Matters escalated on September 2 when he allegedly shared the videos with her husband, uploaded some clips on social media, and appeared outside her door at dawn. It was then that the woman contacted the police.
Officers from Surajpur police station reported that Gaurav fled his home before a police team arrived but was later traced and arrested. He has been charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions relating to assault with intent to disrobe and criminal intimidation, along with sections of the Information Technology Act.
His phone has been seized, and investigators are checking whether he may have targeted other women.
