Gurugram: In a significant boost to aviation infrastructure, Gurugram is poised to unveil a state-of-the-art heliport in Sector 84, strategically located along the Dwarka Expressway. The ambitious project, a joint endeavour between the Haryana government and central agencies, aims to enhance regional air connectivity while alleviating congestion in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Spanning 25 acres, the heliport will be equipped with advanced aviation facilities designed to cater to growing demand for air travel. The modern terminal will accommodate up to 100 passengers, ensuring a seamless transit experience. Additionally, the facility will include helicopter hangars of varying sizes, designated parking areas, and a fully operational maintenance and repair centre.
With a 300-metre runway and six landing spots, the heliport is expected to facilitate smooth and efficient operations.
Situated along the rapidly developing Dwarka Expressway, the heliport offers unparalleled accessibility to major industrial corridors such as Noida and Bhiwadi. This prime location is expected to significantly reduce pressure on Delhi’s airspace while providing a viable alternative for business and leisure travellers.
Haryana’s Deputy Chief Minister, Dushyant Chautala, has affirmed that the heliport will operate 24/7, offering greater flexibility and convenience for air travel across the region.
The heliport forms an integral part of the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS), designed to strengthen air links between Haryana and neighbouring states, including Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttar Pradesh.
Under the initiative, initial flight routes will connect Hisar to Jaisalmer, Jaipur, and Agra, while Ambala will see direct links to Varanasi and Gorakhpur. These developments are anticipated to enhance economic growth and improve accessibility across northern India.
The project has garnered keen interest from aviation stakeholders, with Air India proposing an investment of approximately Rs 3,500 crore towards the development of aviation infrastructure in Haryana, including the new heliport. According to officials, the facility is on track to be fully operational by the end of 2025, with approvals and preparations now in their final stages.
The heliport in Sector 84 marks a transformative step in Haryana’s aviation journey. By offering improved connectivity, reducing air traffic congestion, and driving economic growth, the facility is set to become a cornerstone of air travel in the NCR and beyond. With completion expected by 2025, anticipation is building among stakeholders and residents alike for the launch of this landmark aviation hub.
Beyond the heliport, Haryana is expanding its role in aviation training. Plans are underway to establish pilot and cabin crew training centres in Patli-Hajipur and ATL Sohna, addressing the increasing demand for skilled professionals in the industry. These initiatives further reinforce Haryana’s ambition to position itself as a key player in the aviation sector.
