Faridabad: A dancer performing at a pre-wedding function in Haryana’s Nuh district was beaten on stage after she objected to inappropriate behaviour from a man related to the groom, police said. The dancer has been identified as Payal Choudhary. The incident took place on November 16.
Video from the event shows a man holding currency notes and moving his hand too close to one of the performers. The dancer reacts by pushing his hand away. The man then hits her, triggering a sudden clash on the stage.
Moments later, several men climb onto the platform and surround the dancers. Choudhary is pushed to the ground and repeatedly assaulted, including being struck with a stick. Two other dancers and a man who tried to help were also attacked during the chaos.
Police said they are reviewing the videos to identify everyone involved in the assault. An investigation is currently underway.
Sharing the video on social media, an X user said, "A dancer is seen getting #assaulted after she #objected to an inappropriate touch — and this video has left #Nuh deeply divided. What began as a pre-wedding #celebration turned into a violent #brawl when the groom’s uncle allegedly tried to molest the performer and she #slapped him. Instead of stopping the abuse, the men ganged up, #brutally thrashing the dancers, who were forced to run for their lives. Now, sections of the Meo community are demanding a ban on dancers in #Nuh — but the real question is: Why is the outrage directed at performers and not at the perpetrators of assault? #ViralVideos #HaryanaPolice #WomenSafety #NuhNews #StopViolence”
Commenting on the video, another X user said, “Later, the same crowd will be found talking about women's safety and empowerment. Strict action should be taken against all of them.”
