New Delhi: The capital city of Delhi braces for major traffic disruptions on Friday as the capital prepares to host the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin scheduled to meet for high-level talks. The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an extensive advisory outlining restrictions and expected congestion across key routes.

Security has been significantly heightened around central Delhi, particularly near the Prime Minister’s residence, Rajpath, the airport corridor and key diplomatic zones. Commuters have been urged to plan their movements carefully, with several arterial roads likely to face intermittent closures.

" Special traffic arrangements will be in place in New Delhi District on 05.12.2025 due to a special event," posted Delhi Traffic Police via their official X (Twitter) account. 

Diversion plans for December 5

  • Vehicular movement may be restricted along parts of the Ring Road, Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, and areas surrounding India Gate depending on the President’s movement.
  • Traffic may also be diverted from Teen Murti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Lok Kalyan Marg and the New Delhi district.
  • Short-duration blockades are expected along the airport–city route to facilitate the movement of the visiting delegation.

Advisories for commuters

  • Motorists are advised to avoid central Delhi between the morning and late afternoon unless necessary.
  • Those travelling to the airport should allow extra time and use alternate routes suggested by Delhi Traffic Police.
  • Commercial vehicles may face brief stops at designated checkpoints during high-security hours.
  • Metro services will operate normally, but stations near key venues may experience heightened security checks.
  • Residents have been asked to follow official updates and use navigation apps for real-time diversions.
