New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a 44-year-old woman was shot dead in Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh area on Sunday. The police are trying to find out whether the murder has any connection with the 2023 killing of her husband.
The deceased has been identified as Rachna Yadav. A resident welfare association (RWA) president, she died on the spot after she was shot in the head, the police said. Her husband Vijendra Yadav was shot dead that year, news agency PTI reported.
"In the 2023 case, Vijendra Yadav was allegedly murdered due to previous enmity. Bharat Yadav and five others were named as accused. While five of the accused were arrested and are facing trial, the main accused, Bharat Yadav, is still absconding and has been declared a proclaimed offender," a police officer said.
The officer added that Rachna was the main witness in her husband’s killing and her testimony was vital in the ongoing case for the prosecution. The murder has been caught on CCTV. As per the police, the assailant's accomplice was waiting for him on bike with a Delhi number plate.
Sharing details, the police said that it received a call in the morning, informing a woman had been shot at. After reaching the spot, the police found that Rachna was lying in a pool of blood. They also recovered an empty cartridge from the site.
"Crime Team and FSL teams were immediately called, and the scene of the crime was thoroughly examined. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being scanned to identify the assailants," Additional Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh said as per the agency.
He added, “We are re-examining all aspects of the 2023 case and the role of the proclaimed offender (Bharat)." He further said that several teams have been formed to catch those who are behind the incident.
