Greater Hyderabad reorganised into four police commissionerates: How the move will improve policing
The new commissionerates include Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri and Future City. G Sudheer Babu will be the first commissioner of police for the newly created Future City commissionerate.
Hyderabad: Telangana government has decided to reorganise Gretaer Hyderabad into four police commissionerates, after the recent GHMC expansion and the planned Future City.
These commissionerates include Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri and Future City and it is aimed at ensuring better public services, effective maintenance of law and order and improved crime control.
What areas will come under the four police commissionerates?
Prominent locations such as Assembly, Secretariat, Begumpet Airport, Shamshabad Airport and Budvel High Court have been brought under Hyderabad Police Commissionerate.
Rachakonda Police Commissionerate has been reorganised and renamed as Malkajgiri Commissionerate and will cover areas such as Keesara, Kompally, Quthbullapur and Shamirpet.
IT hubs such as financial district, Gachibowli, Madhapur, Nanakramguda and Raidurg along with areas such as Patancheru, Genome Valley, RC Puram and Ameenpur will come under Cyberabad Commissionerate.
Bhuvanagiri area, which was earlier under Rachakonda, has been excluded from the commissionerate system and will function as a separate police unit, with an SP to be appointed for Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.
Future City Commissionerate, which is newly created, will cover areas such as Chevella, Moinabad, Shankarpally, Maheshwaram, and Ibrahimpatnam.
Who are the police commissioners for the four commissionerates?
The state has issued orders appointing police commissioners for the four commissionerates and an SP for Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.
G Sudheer Babu, IPS, CP Rachakonda, is transferred and posted as Commissioner of Police, Future City.
Avinash Mohanty, IPS, CP Cyberabad, is transferred and posted as CP Malkajgiri.
M Ramesh, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Provisioning and Logistics, Hyderabad, IGP Sports, is transferred and posted as CP Cyberabad.
Akshansh Yadav, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Yadadri Bhongir, Rachakonda is transferred and posted as SP Yadadri Bhongir district.
GHMC expansion:
The reorganisation comes after the GHMC area has been reorganised into 12 zones, 60 circles, and 300 wards.
