Shops selling kites and Manja were inspected and awareness programs were held for school students.
Chinese Manja poses a serious risk for two-wheelers, pedestrians, birds and animals. The manufacture, sale, storage and usage is a banned and is a punishable offence, police said.
Police urged the public to report any sale or use of banned manja to local police and dispose it off if they come across it.
Five-year-old loses life after manja entangles around her neck:
On January 26, a five-year-old child was killed after a Chinese Manja slit her throat in Kukatpally area of the city. The child was traveling with her parents on a two-wheeler, when a manja got entangled around her neck, causing severe injuries. She bled profusely and succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
