Hyderabad: Telangana High Court has dismissed petitions challenging GHMC delimitation stating that it cannot intervene as the process has already been completed, tv9 telugu reported.

Over 80 petitions were lodged in the high court challenging GHMC delimitation. The petitioner's lawyers argued that although the government claims to have carried out the ward delimitation based on a report submitted by the Centre for Good Governance, the report has not been made public, and sufficient time was not given for receiving objections.

The government's lawyer had argued in the court last week that the delimitation notification was issued within the legal framework. He stated that the information has already been placed on the website and that they are addressing the 3,100 objections received so far.

Complaints galore after delimitation and expansion proposal:

The GHMC has been flooded with complaints after the proposed expansion of the civic body from 650 sq km to over 2,000 sq km, which means redrawing ward boundaries.

The expanded GHMC will cover Telangana Core urban region and will have 300 wards after the recent merger of 27 municipalities, municipal corporations in and around Outer Ring Road (ORR).

Citizens have raised objections to new ward boundaries, ward names and the areas into which they have been merged.

Political parties have expressed fear that the new ward boundaries could erode their vote bank and the developmental work carried out in the existing wards could be included in newly created wards. Residents said that the new boundaries don’t do not reflect natural community divisions or existing administrative zones.
