Hyderabad: Telangana transport department continued its crackdown for a third day on travel buses of private companies on Monday morning, tv9 telugu reported.
At least 10 private buses were booked for violations in Vanasathalipuram and a KVR travels sleeper bus operating without permit was seized. Fines of Rs 18,000 were collected during the crackdowns, reports said.
The inspections which began on Saturday, came after a fatal accident that claimed 20 lives in Kurnool bus tragedy. On Sunday, RTA officials imposed fines of Rs 14,000 on six buses.
Some buses are transporting goods without authorisation, and some buses do not have proper fire extinguishers, officials of the transport department said.
About 500 inter-state private travel buses operate from Hyderabad everyday. Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar had said he would meet his Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka counterparts to frame measures to prevent bus accidents amid heavy inter-state traffic.
Fines of Rs 10 crore collected in 2025:
Over all, tri-city commissionerates have booked 29,931 cases and issued over 88,000 e-challans, collecting a fine of Rs 10 crore so far this year.
Most of them were booked for wrong side parking, signal jumping, no-entry violations.
The hotspots where violations occurred included routes connecting Aramghar and Shamshabad towards Bengaluru, LB Nagar, Hayathnagar toward Vijayawada, and Uppal, Ghatkesar towards Warangal.
Commuters said that just penalising offenders won’t help and that regular monitoring and regulation of routes are necessary.
RTA Crackdown in AP:
AP Transport department has also launched a special drive to carry out inspections on private travel buses across the state in the aftermath of the bus accident.
289 cases have been registered against travel buses that violated rules and 18 private travel buses running against the rules have also been seized.
55 cases have been registered in Eluru followed by seizure of 3 illegal travel buses. In East Godavari district, 17 cases have been registered and authorities have seized 4 buses. 27 cases were registered in Konaseema district and 22 cases in Chittoor district, 12 in Kurnool district.
7 cases have been registered in Visakhapatnam and 4 more in Nandyal. 8 buses without proper certificates have been identified and cases have also been registered against 13 buses without an emergency door. Officials have registered cases against 103 buses for not having fire extinguishers.
Cases were booked against 34 buses due to lack of passenger list and 127 cases on other violations.
