New Delhi: This year, winter is expected to be much colder due to the strong impact of La Niña, according to the Meteorological Department. As per experts, the chill could be more severe across many states including Uttar Pradesh from December 2025 to February 2026.
With the possibility of an early and stronger winter, parents and students are eagerly waiting to know when schools in Noida and Ghaziabad will close for the winter break. The expected dates and also how long the winter vacation lasted last year is shared in detail here.
Based on last year’s pattern, winter vacation in Noida and Ghaziabad is likely to begin on December 31. However, no official order has been issued yet by the Education Department or the District Magistrate. As per reports, the holidays may start on December 25 or December 31, depending on how cold it gets in the last week of December.
Last year, due to severe cold, schools in Delhi-NCR remained closed for 15 days, from January 1 to January 15. Schools in Noida and Ghaziabad were shut from December 31, and classes resumed on January 15. In some UP districts, the winter break was extended because of the intense cold. In Ghaziabad last year, winter vacation for Class 1 to Class 8 was extended until January 18.
Media reports suggest that if La Niña brings stronger cold waves in December, winter vacation in Uttar Pradesh schools may begin earlier than usual. However, final decisions on school closures are taken by the District Magistrate of each district. Depending on the weather conditions, authorities can shorten, extend, or advance the winter break.
