Amidst ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ controversy, Naseeruddin Shah ‘stands firmly’ with Diljit

New Delhi: Actor Naseeruddin Shah, who is known to speak his mind on a variety of issues, be it political or personal, has spoken out yet again. This time in relation to the ongoing controversy surrounding Diljit Dosanjh’s film Sardaar Ji 3.

Extending his support to Dosanjh while his latest film Sardaar Ji 3 has not been allowed to release in India, Shah spoke in solidarity of the singer-actor. The film has been in hot waters ever since its release for including Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in its cast. This became problematic after the recent India-Pakistan tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir and subsequent cross-border military escalations.

Veteran actor Nasseruddin Shah took to Facebook to extend his support to Diljit Dosanjh as his latest film Sardaar Ji 3 faces extreme criticism and pushback in India. 

Shah in his post talked about various issues, including the importance of art as a medium, cultural exchanges between India and Pakistan, and his own personal relations across the border.

The post read, “I STAND FIRMLY WITH DILJIT. The dirty tricks deptt of Jumla Party has been awaiting a chance to attack him. They think they’ve got it at last. He was not responsible for the casting of the film, the director was. But no one knows who he is whereas Diljit is known the world over, and he agreed to the cast because his mind is not poisoned. What these goons want is to put an end to personal interaction between the people of India and Pakistan. I have close relatives and some dear friends there and no one can stop me from meeting them or sending them love whenever i feel like it. And my response to those who will say “Go to Pakistan" is “GO TO KAILASA."

While the controversy rages on in India, Dosanjh’s film has been released in other countries, including Pakistan. Dosanjh himself took to Instagram recently to re-post a video capturing the audience’s enthusiastic reaction to the film inside a Pakistani theatre.
