New Delhi: Hollywood’s epic Avatar: Fire and Ash has ignited the global box office, but back home, Tollywood’s Akhanda 2: Thaandavam and Bollywood juggernaut Dhurandhar continue their fiery domination.

From Malayalam hits to small yet steady openers across Indian industries, this week’s box office paints a diverse picture — with varying fortunes across screens. Here’s a full breakdown of how major December releases, including Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 and Sholay: The Final Cut, are performing worldwide.

Avatar: Fire and Ash (Hollywood)

James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash has amassed Rs 1000 crore globally within days of release. Despite niche appeal, the film shows resilience thanks to family audiences and decent word-of-mouth on streaming previews.

Akhanda 2: Thaandavam (Tollywood)

Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2: Thaandavam remains a Tollywood powerhouse, raking in Rs 107.85 crore worldwide. Rs 80.95 crore came from India, including Rs 95.85 crore gross collection. With Rs 12 crore overseas, the sequel rides high on mass action appeal, delivering one of 2025’s biggest regional blockbusters this winter.

Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 (Bollywood)

Kapil Sharma’s Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 draws laughs and numbers alike, hitting Rs 14.38 crore worldwide. It’s earned Rs 11.42 crore net and Rs 13.53 crore gross in India, while adding Rs 0.85 crore from overseas. The family entertainer benefits from Sharma’s strong fanbase and holiday buzz.

Sholay: The Final Cut (Bollywood)

The reimagined version of Sholay has opened softly, earning Rs 2.38 crore globally. The domestic collection stands at Rs 2.03 crore net, while overseas response remains minimal. Despite brand nostalgia, weak reception, and limited screens affecting its opening, it may find legacy followers over time.

Mahasenha (Kollywood)

Tamil film Mahasenha saw a modest start, grossing Rs 1.46 crore worldwide. Domestic earnings are pegged at Rs 1.28 crore with identical gross figures. Although the film failed to make a dent at the box office, critics appreciated its direction and visuals, hinting at better traction on digital platforms.

The Devil (Sandalwood)

Kannada thriller The Devil scored a strong ₹31.14 crore total, driven by ₹26.36 crore in India and ₹31.14 crore gross overall. While it didn’t play overseas, word-of-mouth and solid performances kept local business steady, proving the strength of Sandalwood’s mid-range thrillers this season.

Dhurandhar (Bollywood)

Bollywood spectacle Dhurandhar is unstoppable, roaring past Rs 780 crore globally. Of this, Rs 516.5 crore came from India, with a massive Rs 620 crore gross. Overseas, it added Rs 160 crore. Starring top names and packed with scale, it’s set to be 2025’s first Rs 1000-crore Hindi blockbuster.
