New Delhi: Rajinikanth’s actioner Coolie had a massive opening at the box office and earned Rs 150 crore worldwide on its first day, becoming the highest-opening Tamil film ever. On its first Sunday, the film earned Rs 35 crore India net across its all languages. The movie has now minted Rs 194.25 crore and is inching closer to cross Rs 200 crore-mark.
Rajinikanth’s Coolie, also starring Shruti Haasan and Nagarjuna, opened to mixed reviews from the audiences and critics, alike. Despite the clash with Hrithik Roshan-starrer War 2, the film smashed several records at the ticket window.
Rajnikanth’s much-awaited movie, Coolie, opened in theatres with Rs 65 crore, followed by Rs 54.75 crore on its second day, Rs 29.5 crore on its third day, and Rs 35 crore on its fourth day, taking total to Rs 194.25 crore. The film had an overall Tamil occupancy of 63.75 crore on Sunday. At the worldwide box office, the film minted Rs 320 crore so far and is likely to earn around Rs 600 crore worldwide in the coming days. Rajinikanth might also break his own films records of 2.0 and Jailer, if the momentum continues at the box office.
Lokesh Kanagaraj’s directorial, Coolie, clashed at the box office with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2, which is lagging behind the Tamil movie. Rajinikanth-starrer also has a cameo by Aamir Khan and its climax scene became the talk of the town. The film also features Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Sathyaraj.
