Kalamkaval release postponed: The release of Mammootty’s highly anticipated Malayalam thriller Kalamkaval has been officially delayed, sending ripples through the Malayalam film community. The film, which was earlier set to arrive in cinemas on November 27, has now been postponed indefinitely.
The announcement was made on Thursday (November 20) through Mammootty Kampany’s official social media handles, confirming widespread speculation about a delay.
A fresh promotional poster was unveiled alongside the update, bearing the striking caption: “Delayed, NOT Diminished. We hear you… The wait is noted. The Venom Beneath Will Arrive Soon!! #Kalamkaval Release Postponed, New Release Date will be Announced Soon!!” The note appeared crafted to reassure eager fans that the film’s scale, intensity and ambition remain unaffected despite the rescheduling.
Although the producers did not cite a specific reason for the delay, industry chatter suggests that stalled satellite and OTT deal negotiations may have contributed to the postponement. However, the team has not yet confirmed these reports, leaving room for further updates in the coming days.
Directed by debutant filmmaker Jithin K Jose, Kalamkaval promises to present Mammootty in one of his most morally complex roles in recent years. The veteran actor is expected to lead a layered narrative steeped in tension and ambiguity. Opposite him, Vinayakan plays a formidable police officer, further fuelling curiosity about the on-screen conflict. Jibin Gopinath, known for Dies Irae, is also part of the central ensemble in a pivotal supporting role.
The screenplay has been penned jointly by Jithin K Jose and Jishnu Sreekumar. Behind the camera, cinematographer Faisal Ali leads the visual palette, while acclaimed editor Praveen Prabhakar shapes the film’s rhythm. Music director Mujeeb Majeed and production designer Shajie Naduvil round off the accomplished technical team.
Produced by Mammootty Kampany, the film is set for statewide distribution through Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films. Notably, the film had recently secured a U/A 16+ certification.
