New Delhi: A 5.7 magnitude earthquake hit Bangladesh on Friday at around 10 am. Tremors of the quake were felt in Kolkata and parts of eastern India. The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at 10:08 am local time was 14 kilometres west-southwest of Narsingdi in Bangladesh, said the United States Geological Survey.
Several residents of Kolkata and some other adjoining areas reported feeling mild tremors, earlier today. They also said that fans in their rooms and wall hangings were left shaking due to the quake.
Several people took to social media to share their experience of the earthquake. Photos and videos being shared online showed people stepping out of their homes and offices after experiencing tremors. Other visuals showed fans swinging and wall hangings getting displaced.
So far there are no reports of any injuries or deaths due to the quake.
This is the second earthquake reported from India's neighbouring countries, on Friday. An early morning earthquake hit Pakistan at 3:09 am. The earthquake was reported from northern Pakistan and occurred very close to the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
The Pakistan earthquake measured 5.2 on the Richter scale. This quake was categorised as moderate, but it occurred in an area which is categorised as one having very high seismic activity in the region.
