Rituparna Sengupta to Portray Iconic Bengali Trailblazer Bela De in Upcoming Biopic
The extraordinary life of Bela De, a woman who broke barriers in post-independence India, is set to be immortalised on the silver screen. Actress Rituparna Sengupta will portray the iconic Bengali trailblazer in a new biopic, which she considers one of the most important films of her career.
Bela De was a multifaceted personality, recognised as a cartoonist, author, radio host, and government employee. The film focuses on two key aspects of her life: her pioneering Bengali cookbook and her influential role at All India Radio.
Having already garnered success in Kolkata and secured screenings at international festivals, including one in London on 1st November, the film is now preparing for a national release next month.
Efforts are underway to dub the film in Hindi and provide subtitles in various languages, ensuring its universal message of courage and emotion reaches a wider audience beyond Bengali speakers.
The production, spanning 2 hours and 15 minutes, was shot in approximately 15 to 18 days, with a portion filmed in London, detailing Bela De's journey to find her husband and her culinary education from a British lady.
