Telangana Commission for Women has issued notices to Telugu actor Sivaji for making ‘derogatory comments on women’ at Dandora movie event on Monday, December 22.
The commission has taken suo motu cognizance of the comments and decided to conduct an inquiry under section 16 (1) (b) of Telangana Women’s Commission Act, 1998.
The actor has been asked to appear before the commission on December 27 at 11 AM.
Actor Sivaji issues an apology:
Meanwhile, the actor issued an apology in a video on his social media account on X.
“Recently, I spoke at the ‘Dandora’ pre-release event, referring to an incident where several actresses faced difficulties. While trying to say some good things, I used two inappropriate words. These words might have hurt someone's feelings. I wasn't speaking about all women and only about actresses. However, inappropriate words did slip out. I sincerely apologize for that,” he said.
Telugu film industry women slam Sivaji:
Several people in the Telugu film industry have expressed strong displeasure over actor Shivaji's comments. Nandini Reddy, Supriya Yarlagadda, Swapna Dutt, Lakshmi Manchu, and Jhansi wrote a letter to the MAA president under the name 'Voice of Women’.
What did he say?
Speaking at the pre-release event, he said that actresses should observe some dress sense. “Your entire beauty lies in wearing modest clothing. When you wear fashionable clothes, everyone says they look good, but inwardly, they curse you. A woman is nature itself. The more gracefully she dresses, the more respect she earns.
There should be a limit to glamour. Freedom is a blessing; don't lose it. Even on world stages, those who draped sarees have won Miss World crowns.”
