40 Flights Cancelled Amidst Dense Smog, Airlines Issue Advisories

| Updated on: Dec 15, 2025 | 11:55 AM

Delhi-NCR is currently experiencing a thick blanket of smog, severely impacting air travel at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). This dense fog has led to the cancellation of 40 flights and the diversion of four others.

One notable diversion was SpiceJet flight SG-88, travelling from Bangkok to Delhi, which was safely rerouted to Jaipur due to the significantly reduced visibility in the capital.

In response to the deteriorating conditions, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has issued a travel advisory, urging passengers to monitor flight updates for potential delays. Both major carriers, IndiGo and SpiceJet, have also released their own advisories. IndiGo informed passengers via its official X handle that winter fog has drastically lowered visibility, affecting operations which are being adjusted.

Similarly, SpiceJet warned that poor visibility and adverse weather conditions could impact all departures, arrivals, and connecting flights. Operations at the airport are currently being conducted under CAT III conditions, necessitating extra caution. Passengers are strongly advised to regularly check their flight status through official airline channels before heading to the airport.
