5.1-magnitude of earthquake hits Assam, no casualties reported
A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck Assam during the early hours, triggering panic among residents. Tremors were felt across several districts and in parts of neighbouring Meghalaya. No casualties or damage to property have been reported so far.
New Delhi: An earthquake of 5.1 magnitude struck Assam's Morigaon district during the early hours of Monday, triggering panic among the residents. Reports say that tremors were felt at 4:17 am. As of now, no causalities or loss of properties have been reported. The epicentre at latitude was recorded to be 26.37 26.37°N and longitude 92.29°E, at a depth of 50 km.
The tremors were felt across several districts in Assam and as far as Shillong, Meghalaya.
Tremors were also felt in Tripura
Just a few hours before the earthquake hit Assam, an earthquake of 3.9 magnitude also jolted Tripura's Gomati. The quake struck the region around 3:30 am on early hours of Monday.
The earthquake occurred at 03:33 am (IST) at a depth of 54 kilometres. The epicentre was located at latitude 23.67 degrees north and longitude 91.50 degrees east. "EQ of M: 3.9, On: 05/01/2026 03:33:32 IST, Lat: 23.67 N, Long: 91.50 E, Depth: 54 Km, Location: Gomati, Tripura," NCS said in a post on X.
