New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday visited Assam’s Guwahati, where he inaugurated a new terminal building at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport and inaugurated an 80-foot statue of Gopinath Bardoloi, the state's first Chief Minister.
During the event, PM Modi said, "Once again today, a new chapter is being added to the development of Assam. Just as the Brahmaputra River flows continuously in Assam, similarly, the stream of development is flowing uninterruptedly here under the BJP's double-engine government."
He added, "Today is a day of celebration of development. And it is a celebration of the development of the entire North East, not just Assam. The whole country will see that Assam is celebrating the festival of development."
PM Modi attacked Congress during his speech and said, "Modern airport facilities and advanced infrastructure serve as gateways to new possibilities and opportunities for any state. When you see all this happening, you also say that justice has finally started to be served in Assam. For the Congress government, the development of Assam and the Northeast was not on its agenda."
He further said, "The Congress governments had committed the sin of keeping Assam and the Northeast away from development, and the country had to pay a very heavy price for that in terms of its unity, security, and integrity. During the Congress governments, the era of violence flourished for decades. In just 10-11 years, we are moving towards ending it. The districts in the Northeast that were considered violence-affected are today developing as aspirational districts."
Praising the law and order of Assam, he said, "In the past 11 years, development projects worth hundreds of crores have been launched for Assam and the Northeast. I am happy that Assam has become the number one state in the country in implementing the Indian Penal Code."
While speaking on the development of Assam, PM Modi said, "This development of infrastructure is becoming a major hallmark of India's journey of development; it boosts industries, gives investors confidence in connectivity. It opens the path for local products to reach around the world, and the biggest confidence is gained by that youth for whom new opportunities are being created. Therefore, we are seeing Assam moving forward on the flight of limitless possibilities."
PM Modi stressed the growth of the Indian economy and said, "Today the world's perspective on India has changed, and India's role has also changed. India is now set to become the world's third-largest economy. A very big role in this is that of the development of modern infrastructure. India is preparing for 2047. To fulfill the resolve of a developed India, we are focusing on infrastructure and, most importantly, every state of the country is participating in this great campaign of development."
