New Delhi: A scooter rider was looted of Rs 85 lakh by bike-borne robbers on the Delhi–Lucknow highway, with the assailants snatching a bag containing the cash he was carrying from his office. The incident was captured on camera, and a probe has been launched.
Sources said the man works as an accountant for a Noida-based businessman. On December 15, he was coming back from Hapur after collecting cash. The accountant was riding his scooter on the Delhi-Lucknow highway when a bike overtook his vehicle and pulled up close alongside.
The bike-borne robbers used an adjacent car for their support. The car is believed to be involved in the crime. The bikers kicked the accountant, which caused him to lose his balance and fall from his scooter. They snatched his bag containing the cash and escaped.
The incident was caught on CCTV camera. The footage shows the accountant rolling on the road several times before coming to a stop as his scooter skidded on the road. Police have released photographs of the accused and announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for any information leading to the arrest of each of the robbers.
Kunar Gyananjay Singh, Superintendent of Police, Hapur, has said the police will soon trace the accused and crack the case.
Earlier this month, two women in Punjab’s Ludhiana foiled a snatching bid after chasing away bike-borne robbers. The women were riding an Activa when two men on a motorcycle pulled alongside and tried to corner them. The pillion rider attempted to snatch the driver’s bag, causing her to lose balance and get off the vehicle, but she managed to hold on to the bag and thwart the robbery bid.
The pillion rider then got off the bike and took out a sword to threaten the women. The woman riding the scooter left the vehicle and ran away, while the other woman tried to shield herself. The attackers soon fled the scene.
