New Delhi: Indian students planning to study abroad now have new opportunities as several countries have announced scholarship programmes for the 2026–27 academic year. The Ministry of Education, Government of India has shared details of multiple international scholarships available for students seeking to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD and diploma programmes.
Among these scholarships, the Government of the Russian Federation has announced 300 scholarships exclusively for Indian students seeking admission to Russian universities.
The Russian government scholarships will cover only the tuition fees. Other expenses such as accommodation, travel and living costs will have to be borne by the candidates. Eligible candidates can apply online through the official website education-russia.com.
The scholarships are available for a wide range of disciplines which include medicine, pharmacy, engineering, architecture, agriculture, management, economics, humanities and social sciences, mathematics, space, aviation, sports and arts. Admissions are open across most Russian universities, except Lomonosov Moscow State University and MGIMo.
Indian students can apply for all levels of study, including undergraduate, specialist, master’s, PhD, and advanced training programmes. Most of the programmes especially in medicine are taught in English.
One of the key highlights of this scholarship is that students are not required to know the Russian language. If applicants do not speak Russian, they can simply select the option 'need to learn Russian' while filling out the application form.
There are no entrance tests or exams for selection. Instead, candidates will be assessed based on the previous academic performance and a portfolio. The portfolio must have scientific publications, recommendation letters signed by a rector or vice-rector of the chosen Russian university or certificates of achievement from national or international competitions such as Olympiads. Students can select up to six universities in order of preference, however, the final selection will be made by the universities.
