New Delhi: 10-year-old Shravan Singh from Chak Taran Wali, a border village in Punjab’s Ferozepur district, was honoured with the Pradhan Mantri Bal Puraskar 2026 on Friday. The award was presented by President Draupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
Shravan was recognised for his courage, alertness and selfless service during Operation Sindoor in May 2025, when tensions ran high along the India–Pakistan border. At a time of heightened security, the young boy stepped forward to support troops deployed in the forward areas.
Despite the constant risk, Shravan has continued to assist soldiers stationed near the border. He regularly travels to forward posts, carrying essentials such as water, milk, lassi, tea and ice for personnel posted for extended durations. His quiet determination became a crucial support system for the troops operating under demanding conditions.
Earlier, the Indian Army had formally recognised his efforts and has now taken full responsibility for his education. Shravan has been enrolled in a private school, with the Army arranging all necessities including books, uniform, school bag and other supplies.
Shravan’s father, Sona Singh, said the family was overwhelmed when Army officials informed them that his son’s education would be fully sponsored. He also shared that Shravan is living with diabetes, for which the Army has extended medical support, and has assured continued guidance as the boy aspires to join the armed forces in the future.
