Air India AI171 Crash: Families Sue Boeing over Faulty Fuel Switch
Months after the Air India flight AI171 crash in Ahmedabad, which claimed 241 lives, families of four victims have initiated legal action against Boeing and Honeywell International in a US court. The lawsuit, filed in Delaware Superior Court, alleges a design defect in the aircraft's fuel cut-off switches, manufactured by Honeywell and approved by the FAA.
The plaintiffs contend that the faulty switch design and placement contributed to the accident, which occurred shortly after takeoff.
While the FAA has stated the switches themselves don't appear to be the direct cause, the lawsuit argues their susceptibility to accidental activation played a crucial role in the tragedy. The families are seeking compensatory and punitive damages.
