Babri Masjid Issue Being Revived For Votes, Says RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has sharply criticised the recent foundation stone laying ceremony for a new Babri Masjid in West Bengal's Murshidabad, labelling it a "political conspiracy" aimed at garnering votes. Bhagwat asserted that such an action would benefit neither the Hindu nor the Muslim communities.

The controversy arose after suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir laid the foundation stone for the proposed construction on 6th December. Kabir had defended his action by citing constitutional rights, emphasising that anyone is entitled to build places of worship.

However, Bhagwat firmly stated that attempting to revive the Babri Masjid dispute through such construction is solely politically motivated. He argued that instead of fostering good harmony and allowing past disputes to conclude, this move serves only to "widen that gulf" between communities.

The RSS chief stressed that such divisive actions "should not happen" as they contribute nothing positive for either religious group.
